On Monday night, the Warriors kept up their impressive play with another resounding win against Utah. Klay Thompson had one of his finest efforts from midrange shooting 11-for-19 (82 percent).
He hit three 3-pointers and an incredible buzzer-beating half-court shot in the final quarter to seal victory for his team.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr was unavailable due to attending the funeral of assistant coach Dejan Milojevic in Serbia on Monday; Kenny Atkinson served as acting head coach.
Klay Thompson Scores 26 Points
Klay Thompson amassed 26 points, and Stephen Curry added 25 – including five three-pointers in the fourth quarter – as the Golden State Warriors defeated Utah Jazz 129-107 without head coach Steve Kerr present. Assistant Kenny Atkinson took charge in his absence and led his team successfully.
Thompson made the most of this season-opener after Dejan Milojevic died, scoring 11-of-19 from the field and 8-of-10 from three-point range en route to one of his finest performances of 2018.
Klay Thompson has returned as a formidable playoff threat and it is worrying for opposing teams. Thompson is on pace to average 20.0 points, 4.1 threes, and 3.0 assists per game this year an enormous improvement from last season when he averaged just 18.1 points, 3.1 threes, and 1.5 assists per game – which helps account for their Warriors holding onto first seed status in Western Conference playoffs.

The Warriors needed fill-in scoring from several players on Monday night in order to keep up their momentum when Stephen Curry was off the floor, and Draymond Green made sure they received just that. Thompson finished with 26 points and made eight 2s since January 2023 – leading a balanced attack and helping his team hold off a second-half surge by the Jazz, who came in boasting one of the six-best 3-point percentages in the league but could not catch up. He was an integral factor in keeping their opponent at bay.
The Warriors have won five of their last seven games and are inching closer to making the playoffs. They lead Utah by one-and-a-half games in the West standings and appear to be on an upward trend after starting off shakily this year.
Andrew Wiggins Adds 17 Points
Wiggins took full advantage of Golden State’s struggles against Utah’s bigs by scoring 17 points off the bench on 7-of-16 shooting with three rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes, his only misstep being a missed 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter which would’ve given them the lead with under one minute remaining.
Wiggins recorded his best performance since returning from injury this month when he reached double figures, using his athleticism off the dribble to drive to the basket or find open teammates by drawing extra defenders away. Wiggins also held Coby White to just four points on six shot attempts after halftime; Brandin Podziemski provided additional scoring punch off the bench with 10 points and his 24th charge drawn this season; Kevon Looney reached double figures too with 11 points and 14 rebounds in what marked 500th career game played this time around!
