The Justice Department Verifies Hunter Biden’s Laptop’s Authenticity

On Tuesday, the Justice Department confirmed in a court filing that an allegedly belonging to former Vice President Joe Biden laptop contains real data which matches up with iCloud backup data.

Data was initially obtained through a Delaware computer repair shop owner who claimed it had been dropped off by former Vice-President Al Gore’s son in 2019. Following its collection by these sources, right-wing media outlets disseminated some of its contents.

The Justice Department says it matches iCloud data

The Justice Department has revealed in a court filing that Hunter Biden’s laptop existed and its contents largely matched what investigators obtained from his iCloud. This filing pertains to his federal charges related to illegal gun sales.

Costello claimed that upon viewing these emails and documents he could tell they weren’t faked: Politico newsletter, Wells Fargo statements and reminders to register for youth soccer were among them. He concluded by noting: ‘When you look through them all you just know they’re real.”

This laptop gave authorities insight into Joe Biden Jr.’s overseas business dealings in China and Ukraine, contrary to Joe’s public statements that he never discussed business with his son. Many news outlets ignored it until after the 2020 election when 51 former intelligence officials sent a letter questioning its authenticity; Twitter blocked users from sharing an initial New York Post story due to its policy on hacked material.

The New York Post’s story about the laptop was based on iCloud data

Hunter Biden’s laptop made headlines just weeks before the 2020 presidential election, as its contents overlapped heavily with records uncovered from President Obama’s son Hunter Biden’s Apple iCloud account and initiated an ongoing legal probe that is still playing out today.

As reported in The Post headline, there wasn’t exactly an irrefutable proof that the Biden family engaged in influence peddling with Ukrainian businessman Volodymyr Zelenskyy based solely on one hard drive being leaked.

Two sources provided evidence. One came from a Delaware computer repairman who legally took possession of an abandoned laptop after it was abandoned at his shop and kept a copy on a hard drive for Rudy Giuliani, eventually giving him it and passing along information to The New York Post. Meanwhile, large social media companies blocked or suppressed links to this story due to policies against hacking materials.

The laptop’s contents were largely overlapping with iCloud data

An independent digital forensic analysis confirmed no indications that Biden’s laptop data had been altered, falsified or falsified by two experts at Minneapolis-based Computer Forensics Services. Furthermore, unlike versions that circulated after April 2019 when Biden first left it with them no new files had been added after that date – or at any other date thereafter.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Biden’s laptop in August 2019, but found it was “largely duplicative of information available through other channels,” such as his Apple iCloud account.

Biden’s lawyers, however, have refused to acknowledge that the laptop belonged to Biden; rather they have accused both Mac Isaac and Giuliani of hacking into and disseminating his personal data without his knowledge in the final weeks of the campaign. Their legal representatives have filed suit against both men for invasion of privacy and libel.

The laptop’s data was filtered

Social media companies were quick to remove The Washington Post story claiming evidence of influence peddling by the Biden family based on a laptop Hunter had dropped off at his Delaware store.

Mac Isaac, the laptop owner, said he kept a copy of its contents “just in case I got taken down”. Later, he gave it to Mr Giuliani who gave it over to The Post.

There is still some uncertainty as to the contents of the laptop; however, emails addressed specifically to Hunter were among them as was serial number matching an iPhone. Furthermore, pictures appeared of someone who appeared to be Biden. A lawyer representing former Vice President Joseph Biden asked the Justice Department to investigate close associates of President Donald Trump such as Steve Bannon and Rudy Giuliani who may have gained access or disseminated data contained on it from said laptop; unfortunately the Justice Department has not responded yet.
