Appearance in Court for killing two children
An initial appearance by a defendant before the judiciary marks the official start of their case and often involves setting future proceedings and informing him or her of their rights. Many states mandate prompt initial appearances; laws often specifying “as soon as practicable” or within a set timeframe for initial appearances; defendants can appear either personally or with legal representation.
General appearance means submitting to the court’s personal jurisdiction over them unqualifiably and giving up their right to challenge that jurisdiction at a later date. It is the most frequently seen type of appearance; once made it can often be difficult for parties to withdraw. An initial appearance can often be followed by an arraignment in the same courtroom (schedules of courtrooms may be posted near docket boards).

Remand
Remand refers to when someone is being detained while they wait for trial or sentencing, whether in police cells, court cells or psychiatric facilities. Remand prisoners make up a substantial portion of prison population and can often be found held in large local facilities that specialize in holding them; time spent on remand counts towards total sentence length.
Remand is the name of a legal process by which an appellate court overrules and returns a lower court’s ruling to it for reconsideration, typically because they believe the lower court made an error or ignored certain factors when rendering its ruling.
Remand orders typically include instructions directing what action should be taken by the new court when reviewing the case anew, such as instructing it to use different legal standards for its consideration of it.
