Lynne Marta was well known for her roles in movies like Joe Kidd and Footloose as well as appearing regularly on Love American Style on television. At 78, she died.
Marta made her professional debut on The Lloyd Thaxton Show for teens, followed by appearances in Gidget and The Monkees episodes. Marta would later star in 18 episodes of Love, American Style on ABC anthology series.
Footloose
Lynne Marta, best known for playing Lulu Warnicker Kevin Bacon’s Ren’s aunt in the 1984 movie Footloose died Thursday at her Los Angeles home at age 78. Marta also appeared in Joe Kidd and TV shows such as Love American Style and Starsky and Hutch.
New Jersey-born Carrie Lynne Marta began her acting career by appearing on The Lloyd Thaxton Show for teenage dancers, which led to roles on Gidget and The Monkees as well as 18 episodes from ABC anthology series Love, American Style in 1969-70.
Lynne Marta made her television debut in a 1973 pilot for an ABC sci-fi series written by Gene Roddenberry called Genesis II; unfortunately it wasn’t picked up for series. Additionally, she appeared in such shows as ER, Caroline in the City, Gunsmoke, Kojak and Marcus Welby M.D as well as Passions Days of Our Lives and Young and Restless on television.
Joe Kidd
An ex-bounty hunter is hired by a landowner to track down and capture Mexican revolutionary Luis Chama. Elmore Leonard wrote the screenplay, directed by John Sturges and starred Clint Eastwood as Joe Kidd; Robert Duvall played Robert Duvall who offered their assistance as they pursued Luis Chama as part of their plan to recover ancestral lands for peasants in New Mexico.
Although a bit uneven, this movie still has its moments. Eastwood and Duvall do incredible work given what little material they were given; additionally, the movie exudes an elegant coolness that stands in stark contrast to many modern films filled with stunts and pointless symbolism.
Film fans should note the film also boasts some incredible examples of classic firearms on screen; Frank Harlan uses a custom Savage 99 (1899), while Lamarr Simms (Don Stroud) employs a Mauser C-96 (1896). A great western!
Love American Style
Love American Style was an anthology comedy series first broadcast on ABC in 1972 that featured guest star appearances by renowned celebrities in one, two, three or more short stories or vignettes that explored various forms of romantic love and relationships. The show first premiered at that time.
Lynne Marta made appearances in numerous TV series such as Gunsmoke, The Rockford Files, Kojak, Marcus Welby M.D. Knight Rider and Designing Women – she even appeared in Gene Roddenberry’s Genesis II pilot script in 1973!
Lynne Marta performed alongside late Starsky & Hutch co-star David Soul in a 1977 television special, entitled David Soul and Friends. They are said to have had an open relationship during his marriage to Karen Carlson who passed away this month at age 80. Marta was born in Somerville, New Jersey as the youngest of her parents’ five children and is survived by her sister MJ.
