Leonard returned with a bang after sitting out the first 27 games of the season, scoring his 13,000th career point during a fourth quarter dunk to help lead the Clippers past Miami 121-104 and secure victory.
Two-way star Tyler White will likely see his playing time reduced in order to protect his health, yet that shouldn’t hinder his fantasy production too much for managers of eight-category leagues. White remains an attractive option.
What Is he?
Leonard is an experimental physicist at Caltech who has fallen deeply in love with Penny since they first met. Although he attempts to date other women to try and forget Penny, he always returns to her and hopes that they’ll soon get back together again.
Leonard is passionate about science but disenchanted that nothing new has been discovered in physics in over ten years. Furthermore, his mother never approved of him and once humiliated him by making him return a ribbon from a science fair project similar to one his brother completed (“Do Lima Beans React Better to Rock N’ Roll”, S3E18).
Leonard is considered one of the geekier members of his group; yet he is actually quite balanced and sensible. He enjoys experiencing new things, often taking risks outside his typical social circle (such as playing Klingon Boggle). Leonard wears black-framed glasses, earth tone jackets or hoodies and sneakers.
Who Is he With?
Although Leonard, like many of his geeky friends, is socially inept, he seems better adjusted than Sheldon (who often disregards social norms) or Raj (who can only talk to women under the influence of alcohol or anti-anxiety medication). Additionally, Leonard tends to try out new activities more readily.
Penny and Will have been married since Season 4, though there have been difficulties between them such as when Penny accuses Will of “flying into a blind panic”, to which Will responds by telling Penny he loves her.
In Season 12’s finale episode “The Romance Recalibration”, Leonard and Priya attempted to maintain a long distance relationship, even engaging in Skype sessions (with an attempt at cybersex). In “The Romance Recalibration”, their attempt failed and they parted ways in “The Romance Recalibration”. Zack Johnson and Marissa asked Leonard if he could become their surrogate father as they are both infertile; initially he agreed – only later to change his mind due to wanting no child coming into his care that couldn’t possibly exist in his world.
What Is Leonard Relationship With Penny?
Leonard and Penny have an extraordinarily complex relationship. Leonard attempts to propose to Penny during a Valentine’s Day dinner date in “The Tangible Affection Proof”, but she reveals she’s not ready for this level of commitment just yet. Additionally, she struggles with insecurity issues regarding both height and appearance.
By the eighth season’s “The Expedition Approximation”, she had made enough money to sell her car, giving her some confidence while also increasing feelings of insecurity in her relationship with Sheldon and Howard. Additionally, during this episode she witnessed Raj kissing another woman at work and made an offhanded comment to Sheldon about it, further unsettled her.
At first, she decides to give Zack’s infertile wife Marissa her sperm; later however she changes her mind and doesn’t wish for children; Leonard supports this decision. Additionally she earns herself a leading role as Blanche DuBois in “The Monster Isolation”. Eventually her acting career flourishes further and even landing her an advertisement spot for hemorrhoid cream!
What Is His Family Like?
Beverly, Leonard’s mother, seems both proud of and worried about his achievements. However, she remains concerned that too much time and attention are focused on work instead of Penny.
Leonard and Sheldon are working to attract more women into science, giving a speech to middle school students as part of this initiative. Sheldon initially hesitates to present his and Leonard’s research, but their audience convinces him otherwise.
As Leonard returns from injury, the Clippers are counting on him as an important contributor. On Monday he recorded 24 points – including an early fourth-quarter dunk! – six rebounds, five assists and one block across 34 minutes against Miami Heat 121-104 win. If there are no setbacks he should play all games Wednesday and Friday as team leader with 18.2 average scoring per game average career scorer average.
