Leon Cooperman, chairman of Omega Family Office and an 80-year-old investment manager with a net worth estimated by Forbes at $2.8 billion, recently stated his intention not to vote for either Donald Trump or Joe Biden in their rematch next year. Cooperman has historically donated to Republican candidates and committees; famously he engaged Elizabeth Warren over her wealth tax proposal in 2020.
Trump’s Conduct Is “Not Presidential”
Leon Cooperman is a legendary Wall Street figure and billionaire who built his fortune at Goldman Sachs before going on to become one of America’s foremost philanthropists. But he’s also one of President Donald Trump’s harshest critics – in an interview with CNN, Omega Family office Chairman and CEO Leon Cooperman announced he won’t vote for either Joe Biden or Donald Trump for president in 2024, calling both candidates poor choices; instead preferring centrist candidates instead of radical left or right candidates
He has previously written Mitt Romney’s name into his ballot for president and donated to Republicans like Chris Christie, Joe Manchin and Rick Scott; more recently however he has become especially critical of Donald Trump and has called out his behavior as “not presidential,” calling on him to face 90 criminal charges against him including election interference charges that begin their first trial March 4. Meanwhile he also faces four additional criminal cases which require trial as soon as possible.
He Belongs in Jail
Leon Cooperman stands out among Wall Street figures by being vocal about his disagreement with President Trump. Omega Advisors billionaire hedge fund manager Leon Cooperman boasts a net worth of $2.5 billion and has historically supported Republican candidates; moreover, last year he even sparred with Elizabeth Warren over her wealth tax proposal.
Cooperman recently told CNN in an interview that he will not vote for either Donald Trump or Joe Biden in the 2024 elections, as neither are likely to win their party’s nomination – if this occurs he intends to write Mitt Romney onto his ballot instead.
He explained that he voted reluctantly for Biden in 2020, and will no longer do so in 2024. His reasoning? Biden has become too closely aligned with progressive forces within his party and lost his edge. Furthermore, he criticizes Washington’s lack of fiscal discipline as well as an increase in national debt.
He’s a “Divisive Human Being”
Leon Cooperman, who has donated almost exclusively to Republicans and passionately opposed Elizabeth Warren over her proposed ultra-millionaire wealth tax proposal, warned in an interview with CNN that another four year term for Donald Trump would be devastating for America. He expressed some ambivalence toward voting for Joe Biden this time around; if their race were repeated again next year he might even opt out entirely.
Rarely has any Wall Street figure taken such an outspoken public stance against President Donald Trump; but Omega Advisors chairman Jonathan Greenberg strongly disproved of any notion that Trump could be excused for his behavior. Greenberg commented, “He belongs in jail!”
Cooperman believes Trump has not only shown an insufficient fiscal discipline and contributed to increasing national debt, but that these traits also make him “not presidential.” Regardless of this assessment, Cooperman remains optimistic that neither Donald Trump nor Joe Biden will become their party’s nominee this fall; and should they remain his only options, he would opt not to vote.
He’s a “Bad Choice”
Billionaire Leon Cooperman has an unwavering opinion of who should become president, and it doesn’t bode well for either Biden or Trump. Cooperman told CNN he will vote against both candidates if a runoff should arise between Biden and Trump, calling both options “bad choices”.
Hedge fund billionaire Don Davis, known for his longtime support of Republicans and recent disagreements with Elizabeth Warren over her proposed wealth tax proposal, believes that returning Trump as president will only serve to empower some of its worst members and ideas within his party.
As for Biden, Trump criticizes him for having an indecisive foreign policy and being too self-conscious about offending certain elements of the Democratic base. Additionally, Trump points out Biden advised President Obama against killing Osama bin Laden and supported an Iran deal, both controversial moves which caused much division across America. If Biden becomes president it will only make matters more unstable and divisive.
