Kate Middleton was recently discharged from hospital following abdominal surgery. Kensington Palace did not disclose what procedure had taken place, however ET has learned it did not involve cancer treatment.
On Jan. 17, Meghan was admitted to the private London Clinic and announced she would not resume royal duties until after Easter, which this year falls on March 31.
Hospital Stay
The Duchess of Cambridge has returned home following 13 nights at London Clinic for planned abdominal surgery, where she received expert care from its dedicated nursing staff. Kensington Palace issued a statement thanking everyone at The London Clinic and especially their dedicated nursing staff for providing such great assistance during this journey. “She is making good progress at Adelaide Cottage on Windsor Castle grounds.” “Prince and Princess wish to express our immense appreciation to them all for all their kindness,” according to Kensington Palace.
In an official statement issued by Kensington Palace, Kate had to cancel several engagements due to illness; they assured that as soon as she is medically cleared she will reschedule as many as possible. Meanwhile, her father-in-law King Charles remains hospitalized following treatment for his enlarged prostate.
He also temporarily suspended his own public duties to focus on caring for their three young children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. When returning to duties it will depend on advice from doctors which is expected to come post Easter.
Recovery Time
Kate will likely remain hospitalized for 10-14 days and take time off her usual engagements until she can fully recuperate at home.
Kensington Palace released an announcement Jan. 16 that Princess Anne, 42, had been admitted to the private London Clinic for “planned abdominal surgery,” without providing details regarding her condition; ET understands it wasn’t cancerous.
Prince William visited Princess Kate in hospital this weekend, with their three children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8), and Prince Louis (5) able to remain in contact via FaceTime with her. William plans on providing support and care for his wife until she’s back on her regular duties.
The Palace has not released further details regarding Kate Middleton’s surgery; however, she issued an apology via tweet on X (formerly Twitter) as soon as it became known of it. Post-surgery rest and relaxation should always take precedence during recovery time.
Keeping Up With the Royals
Kate, 42, has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery in private until after Easter. She had been staying at London Clinic since Jan 17 and is reported as doing “well” upon returning.
As she recovers, it will fall to Prince William and their three children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5) to pick up any royal engagements that have been postponed until she feels better.
It has been a tumultuous year for the royal family, from reports of tension between Prince Harry and Prince William to Prince Philip’s death yet Kate Middleton seems to be holding everything together despite all these challenges.

Kensington Palace released a statement Monday noting that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is “making good progress” following surgery and her family has postponed public engagements until after Easter as she receives medical care and recovery at home. Kensington Palace further stated they were extremely thankful for all the well wishes from all corners.
Kate’s health update comes shortly after Buckingham Palace made public news of Prince Philip being hospitalized at The London Clinic for prostate surgery, reported People. Kate and her loved ones were left shocked and stunned upon learning this news, having received no prior indication anything might be amiss prior to visiting The London Clinic on January 16.
Kate Middleton has had an eventful few weeks. With Natalie Barrows and Jean-Christophe Gray taking over many of her duties, including postponing engagements for her 30 charities that may need postponing or rescheduling. While each pregnancy was smooth sailing for Kate – including hyperemesis gravidarum with both children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
