Nikki Haley has built her New Hampshire campaign around an indirect two-person race between Donald Trump and herself, citing that she has closed the gap since finishing second to Ron DeSantis in Iowa’s caucuses. However, Trump remains ahead in national surveys and New Hampshire’s first-in-nation primary on Jan 23.
Haley must connect with voters who are unaffected by her opponent’s attacks in order to close the gap between themselves and Trump. But that will require her to confront his attacks head on.

Haley’s immigration stance has ignited considerable debate in New Hampshire. Yet this claim is incorrect; New Hampshire elections involve multiple contestants vying for votes in each election cycle, not just two people running against each other.

Haley has been resisting Trump’s attacks in New Hampshire by asserting her right to express her beliefs, such as her support of President Donald Trump.

Haley generally refrained from attacking Donald Trump prior to Iowa, often at the urging of advisers. With New Hampshire’s first primary approaching next month, however, she seems ready for battle.
On Monday, Trump shared a social media post from the far right which falsely asserted Haley was disqualified from running for president due to her parents not being US citizens at her birth.
She’s a sexist?
Haley has not shied away from embracing gender politics as part of her campaign strategy, using it against rivals as an advantage and making references to it when discussing policies such as abortion.
However, this wasn’t enough for many Republicans in New Hampshire; voters expressed an openness towards an alternative nominee who differed both personally and policy-wise from Trump.
She’s a racist?
Haley provoked President Trump with her noncommittal responses when discussing questions of racism on the campaign trail; for instance, she did not identify slavery as the main factor leading up to the Civil War.
Her comments disregard the reality that America is an inherently racist country, steeped in slavery and segregation. It took decades of protests led by Dr. King for Black Americans to achieve equality.
She’s a liar?
Haley has since turned her focus back to New Hampshire, where polls place her second behind Trump. To challenge his use of fake news, her campaign has released digital ads which attack his tactics directly.
She has made strides among self-described moderate Republicans and independents. New Hampshire voters tend to be less religiously conservative and rural than Iowans; thus providing her an opportunity to make an impressionful argument there.
She’s a phony?
Trump and his team have long plotted against Haley, but now that she is ahead of DeSantis in New Hampshire they have taken more aggressive measures against her. Now is the time for full-on disruption.
That could prove risky; New Hampshire boasts an exceptional mix of voters, including independents who can participate in the Republican primary and often prefer candidates unlike Donald Trump in personality terms.
