Huawei may not make as many headlines as Apple or Samsung, but the Shenzhen-based conglomerate remains one of the world’s most dominant technology brands. Huawei currently holds the global telecommunication equipment manufacturing crown and stands to become the go-to choice in 5G infrastructure development? in addition to being one of the premier smartphone makers.

Despite US restrictions that prevent many western companies from selling to Alibaba Group, they have still managed to expand. Their cloud computing business experienced phenomenal growth of 40% in 2016, reaching $45.3 billion yuan in revenue.

It’s a threat?

Huawei is being subject to an attack in the US, where officials fear it could allow Beijing to spy on American companies and citizens. Huawei has been accused of stealing intellectual property as well as violating sanctions against Iran, though they deny these accusations.

In May, the Commerce Department included Huawei on its entity list to limit U.S. companies from selling directly to Huawei without approval from appropriate government authorities. As a result, Google, Intel, Broadcom and Qualcomm all suspended any possible cooperation with Huawei for now.
