Chelsea Handler poked some light fun at Jo Koy’s lackluster hosting job for the Globes during his appearance at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, making a few jokes that played off of Koy’s uninspiring lines.
Joel McHale and Ken Jeong took aim at Koy with jokes about his medical license being taken away after killing a patient.
Ken Jeong and Joel McHale Poke Fun at Jo Koy’s Golden Globes Monologue
Community stars Ken Jeong and Joel McHale provided Jo Koy with much-needed comic relief during his Golden Globes monologue, helping him recover with some light-hearted banter in the second act. While presenting an award, they took this chance to mock some of Koy’s less than amusing jokes about Taylor Swift and Barbie; their humor earned laughter from TV’s biggest night, including Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Peter Dinklage who attended.
Koy began his monologue by noting how special it was to be part of this event and noting how the movie stars are all “so much funnier in tuxes.” His attempts at mocking movies up for awards quickly met with resistance from an eager and star-studded crowd – there were groans and sneers when Koy made light of Barry Keoghan’s penis from Saltburn or Bradley Cooper’s nose in Maestro or even made light of his own chin, among others.
He joked about only having had about a week to prepare his monologue, prompting more laughter from audience members. Yet each of his jokes were met with cheers instead, culminating in his tearful ending line about how important movie industry is worldwide.
At the awards show, there were multiple staged reunions throughout the night. Petite reunions of casts from Grey’s Anatomy, All in the Family, Martin, and Cheers appeared on themed sets; Amy Poehler and Tina Fey returned for an amusing Weekend Update-like segment; Yvette Nicole Brown made a brief appearance and paid her respects to James Gandolfini during a touching tribute tribute; Community may return for another film under fired-and-hired creator Dan Harmon’s guidance with McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash returning series regulars; though Yvette and Chevy Chase remain unknowns.
Ken Jeong & Joel McHale Poke Fun at Jo Koy’s Golden Globes Monologue
Joel McHale and Ken Jeong of Community gave Jo Koy a taste of his own medicine on Monday night when they made fun of his subpar performance as host for this year’s Golden Globes ceremony. McHale and Jeong took particular pleasure in mocking Koy’s unfunny lines during presentation of Outstanding Reality Competition Program award show, criticizing Koy for blaming writers when jokes failed to land with an audience.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer, contestant Pickle had an issue with judges Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg; specifically Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg. But this two-hour season finale of Fox singing competition proved more unpredictable; when Pickle revealed his mask it came as quite an unexpected shock that it would actually be… a former contestant!
Even though this episode of The Masked Singer wasn’t live, it still proved highly entertaining. Bee, Monster and Peacock spent most of the show trying to outwit Kenan Thompson from Saturday Night Live as well as Ken Jeong, Wahlberg and repeat Masked Singer guest Nick Cannon; all in hopes that one would emerge victorious and claim this year’s championship title; yet an unexpected turn in the final round left audiences laughing out loud!
Jo Koy’s jokes at the Golden Globes fell flat, though. Last night at the Critics’ Choice Awards however, his hosting partner Chelsea Handler managed to steer him clear from this same fate by using her own wit in place of jabs at Koy; when discussing his failed Globes monologue she mentioned how Swift had dumped Kelce before she began dating Handler herself! Among other lines in a riff about Koy, Handler pointed out how Swift’s former flame had dumped writers under Koy’s nose before.
