Gun and Drug Charges on former NBA All-Star Rajon Rondo | got Arrested

Rajon Rondo, 37 years old and former NBA All-Star was arrested Sunday on charges of illegal possession of firearm while prohibited and possessing drug and marijuana paraphernalia. Indiana State Police state they noticed him driving a black 2022 Tesla and pulled him over before arresting him for those charges.

In May 2022, he is said to have pulled a gun on the mother of his children at their Louisville residence, prompting a judge to grant an emergency protective order; however, that order was later nullified by court ruling.

Possession of a Firearm

Rajon, former Boston Celtics point guard, was arrested Sunday afternoon on gun and drug charges in southern Indiana. According to WDRB, Rondo was stopped for traffic violations in Jackson County when troopers reportedly smelled marijuana coming from his car; upon further inspection they discovered firearms, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, as well as unlawful firearm possession while prohibited and illegal possession of marijuana misdemeanor offenses charged as misdemeanors by Rondo himself; they released him back into family care by whomever Rondo may face more charges from Rondo himself for these offenses as well.

Rondo hails from Louisville and spent 16 seasons playing in the NBA for various teams such as the Celtics (winning two championships ), Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans; being selected 21st overall in 2006 NBA draft and four-time All Star. However, Rondo had several run-ins with law throughout his career including an emergency protective order filed against him by a woman alleging threat by Rondo against her family members in 2022.

Possession of Marijuana

Rajon, 37, has been charged with illegal possession of firearms while prohibited, possessing marijuana illegally and drug paraphernalia possession. Rondo was arrested in Jackson County on Sunday and will soon make an initial appearance in court to face these misdemeanors. Rondo cannot possess guns due to an existing protective order from an incident in Louisville in 2022 that forbids his access.

WHAS11 reports that an Indiana State Police trooper stopped Rondo’s car for violating traffic regulations and noticed the strong scent of marijuana coming from it, prompting them to search his vehicle where they discovered firearms, small amounts of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Rondo made his NBA debut as the 21st overall selection by the Phoenix Suns in 2006 NBA Draft and quickly established himself as an All-Star. Born and raised in Louisville, Rondo graduated from Eastern High School before playing college basketball at University of Kentucky.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Rajon Rondo, 37, is one of the greatest floor generals to ever grace an NBA court. After playing college ball at University of Kentucky and being selected 21st overall for his draft year 2006 draft pick by Boston Celtics he went on to play 16 NBA seasons, winning two championships (2008 Celtics & 2020 Lakers), making four All-Star teams and earning 16 All-NBA selections during that span.

On Sunday afternoon in Indiana he was arrested after a traffic stop. Police reported receiving a call about a black 2022 Tesla traveling recklessly along I-65 in Bartholomew County and initiating a traffic stop when trooper noticed it smelled marijuana; searching the car revealed a firearm, small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia – leading to his arrest.

Officers charged Rondo with possessing a firearm when prohibited, possessing marijuana illegally and drug paraphernalia possession – all misdemeanor charges. A juvenile in his car was released to family member.

Possession of a Firearm Prohibited

New York law restricts possession of firearms to those who are prohibited for various reasons, such as having been found guilty of stalking or domestic assault charges. For instance, having been found guilty of these offenses prohibits them from possessing weapons.

Jackson County Indiana state troopers say they detected the scent of marijuana emanating from 37-year-old Rondo’s vehicle, prompting a search which revealed a firearm, “personal use amount” of cannabis and drug paraphernalia WDRB reports.

Rondo has been playing in the NBA for 16 years, winning two championships with Boston Celtics. Drafted 21st overall in 2006 draft and having spent time on Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers teams before coming home to Louisville where he attended Eastern High School before enrolling at Oak Hill Academy located near Mouth of Wilson Virginia.
