On Sunday night, the Detroit Red Wings successfully concluded their three-game California road trip despite a tight contest with Anaheim Ducks. Michael Rasmussen made history when he deflected Moritz Seider’s shot with 1:07 remaining for a 3-2 win for Detroit over Anaheim Ducks.
Henrique strikes again! Reimer had no chance until Henrique deftly deflected a perfect shot pass between his legs for his 10th goal of the season.
First Period
As always, the first period was an action-packed one. Betting 1P Overs is best done during this stage, but be mindful of all factors including schedules and where teams play; their style of play; as well as other determining factors which could influence how many goals were scored during it.
The Ducks struck first as Trevor Zegras redirected Troy Terry’s point shot from 20 seconds in and scored. However, Detroit quickly responded on their first power play of the game when Dylan Larkin scored from slot.
After that wild sequence, the period concluded in dramatic fashion as Anaheim’s Michael Rasmussen was called for tripping while J.T. Compher was charged with delay of game for skate-in to team bench after receiving penalty call – leaving Detroit shorthanded for almost 1:25 but with Detroit goalie Curtis Joseph making 10 saves including stopping Petr Sykora’s slap shot! The Ducks weren’t able to capitalize and the period concluded with Detroit goalie Curtis Joseph making 10 saves including spearing Sykora’s shot from Petr Sykora!
Second Period
Dylan Larkin and Joe Veleno scored goals for Detroit as it completed a three-game California roadtrip undefeated. Detroit led 2-1 after two periods.
Veleno gave the Ducks an early lead 2:20 into the second period with a wraparound goal that barely crossed over, yet was confirmed upon review. Andrew Copp and Ben Chiarot earned assists on Veleno’s goal while Andrew Copp and Ben Chiarot also provided assists on it. Unfortunately for them though, an extended five-on-three power play period couldn’t yield results as an otherwise promising five-on-three power play was unsuccessfully utilized by them.
Zegras tied it up for Anaheim at 3:55 of the third period, taking a pass from Cam Fowler low in the right circle and roofing it over goalie Alex Lyon.
Moritz Seider put the Ducks ahead with a short-side snipe in the final minute, but they could not hold on for victory. Their victory ended a two-game losing streak against Detroit and improved their record against them to 4-3-1; their only other win against them came during their inaugural postseason appearance back in 1997, where they were swept four games – an accomplishment worthy of note!
Third Period
After an indecisive start, Detroit took control of the second period with Dylan Larkin tying it at 1-1 during a power play by firing one-timer against Dostal’s pads and across the goalline; review upheld it as valid.
Dostal made several more saves in the opening half of the third period, such as an attempt at stopping Patrick Kane and stopping J.T. Compher. At the other end, Michael Rasmussen redirected Moritz Seider’s shot into his net for his third of the season – another impressive save by Dostal.
After that goal, however, the Ducks quickly rallied with Henrique scoring from the slot on a Cam Fowler pass and Scheifele beating Curtis Joseph to score his fourth of the year on his blocker side. Chistov then beat Joseph to a loose puck behind the net before flicking it past him into goal as Joseph moved across his crease; that proved decisive at the end of a third period where the Red Wings controlled most shots and faceoffs.
Fourth Period
Red Wings outshot Ducks 37-26; however, special teams played an instrumental role in Anaheim securing two goals in the final minute. Chistov beat Joseph to the puck near Joseph’s net and took advantage of it by skating backward and firing a shot that hit his rookie goalie and went into goal for one goal scored by Chistov.
Joe Veleno and Dylan Larkin also scored, while Alex Lyon made 29 saves to secure victory for Detroit on Legacy Night at Honda Center, with franchise icons Teemu Selanne and J.S. Giguere among their number.
Larkin opened up scoring just 20 seconds into the second period with a goal off a rebound of Troy Terry’s point shot, however Red Wings defenseman Darren Helm was called for tripping at 11:37 and Jakob Silfverberg for slashing three minutes later, leaving Detroit two skaters short for 1:25, enabling Veleno to make his move, which was upheld on review due to no obvious kicking motion in it.
