Britney Spears

Pop star Miley Cyrus set the record straight in an Instagram post published January 3rd that included an image by Guido Reni depicting Salome Bearing the Head of John the Baptist.

Britney Spears responded angrily to reports that her team is recruiting songwriters for her first album since Glory in 2016. She attacked these claims, tweeting out a series of insulting captions which read as follows.

Why?

Britney Spears fans who had anticipated her comeback are left disillusioned. With an Instagram post featuring a Guido Reni painting of Salome bearing John the Baptist’s head as proof, Spears put an end to any speculation she might be working on new music.

Patti Spears denied reports from US gossip site Page Six that suggested she was hiring singer-songwriters such as Charli XCX and Julia Michaels to contribute material for her next record, Glory (released 2016). Michaels co-wrote Slumber Party from this last album alongside Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson and Justin Tranter.

Spears used her post to address allegations that her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me, had been released without her authorization. The book explored generational trauma and censorship which has been the source of an ongoing legal battle with Lynne Spears; since then Spears has moved onto writing music as ghostwriter.

What’s next?

No one should still harbor hopes that Spears’ conservatorship termination would bring new music; her recent statement should put any such hopes to rest. She issued an Instagram post featuring Guido Reni’s Salome Bearing the Head of John the Baptist as proof against reports she and her team have begun recruiting songwriters to work on her tenth studio album.

After reports surfaced of her working with Julia Michaels and Charli XCX to write songs for a full-length record since 2016’s Glory, her statement revealed these reports were completely false. Judging from her reaction, it’s evident these reports were falsehoods.

Spears’ court-ordered freedom will allow her to enjoy certain basic liberties that had been restricted during the 13 years she spent under conservatorship, including writing her own music and marrying personal trainer Sam Asghari; also she can release her highly-anticipated memoir The Woman In Me.

Who’s writing her music?

One common assumption about pop singers is that they do not compose their own songs, yet Spears has written some of her hits over time.

“…Baby One More Time” became her signature song during the 1990s and is widely considered one of the best tracks from that decade, appearing on all her greatest hits albums and numerous dance video games such as Ubisoft’s 2011 Just Dance game.

Charli XCX revealed on Watch What Happens Live that she wrote and submitted a song to Britney Spears for her album Britney Jean called “3,” however it did not make the cut. However, she was “honored” to have written for such an iconic pop star and expressed interest in writing again for Spears in future albums as she has already co-written hits for other artists like Selena Gomez and Blondie.

Will Britney Spears ever perform live again?

Britney Spears hasn’t performed live since her 2016 album Glory came out, yet still receives numerous offers to record tracks or collaborate. But she wants it her own way if possible.

She has also been keeping busy with the release of her memoir, The Woman In Me, which has become a national bestseller. Britney has been speaking out about it in interviews with media, and recently addressed one of the key concerns of fans: will she return to performing again.

Britney Spears put any speculation to rest with an Instagram post recently, disproving allegations that she’d written an entire album and recruited artists like Charli XCX for its creation. Instead, she confirmed working on some music with Julia Michaels – they have previously collaborated and Michaels can be found credited on Spears’ 2016 studio album as well as Piece of Me’s song ‘Slumber Party. Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson and Justin Tranter also contribute writing credits.
