Baker Mayfield led Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an NFC wild-card victory against Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia Eagles by throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns on Monday night, in an NFC wild-card game.

Mike Evans caught a 19-yard touchdown pass, while Rachaad White scored on a two-yard run. David Moore scored with a 52-yard reception.

First Quarter

Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed an opportunity, and on Monday night they took it by defeating Jalen Hurts and his Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 before an enthusiastic 63,397-seat crowd at Raymond James Stadium.

The Bucs got off to an impressive start, as David Moore caught a 44-yard touchdown pass and rookie Trey Palmer scored on an easy 56-yard reception shortly thereafter for a 13-0 advantage. Chase McLaughlin added 28 and 54-yard field goals during halftime to give them a 21-3 edge.

Montravius Adams blocked Tyler Bass’s 49-yard attempt into the wind during the third quarter, which was recovered by Nick Herbig and returned to Allen. That set up Dawson Knox catching Allen’s nine-yard TD pass for 24-13 lead; Khalil Shakir then caught 10-yard TD to extend that margin with 9:32 remaining and Highmark Stadium stands erupted as snow was flung around like confetti!

Second Quarter

Eagles defenders lazily attempted to tackle Baker Mayfield, who connected on a 56-yard pass to rookie Trey Palmer to break open the game. On their next possession, however, the Eagles tried to regroup by driving downfield for a 76-yard touchdown drive with Jalen Hurts’ pass being intercepted by safety Isaiah McKenzie in the end zone for a safety.

In the second quarter, both teams exchanged fumbles. Terrel Bernard recovered receiver George Pickens’s at Pittsburgh 29 before Allen threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dawson Knox to give Buffalo an early 20-3 advantage. Chase McLaughlin completed their half with field goals from 28, 54 and 48 yards respectively to cap scoring in this half.

Rev. Martin Luther King Jr’s family – Yolanda Renee, Arndrea Waters and Martin Luther King III – served as honorary team captains and took part in an NFL pregame coin toss for the first time ever. It marked an historic event.

Third Quarter

Baker Mayfield led the resurgent Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an easy win against Jalen Hurts and the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles at Raymond James Stadium on Monday evening, posting 337 yards passing and three touchdown passes while never allowing an ineffective Eagles offense to establish any momentum.

Chase McLaughlin kicked field goals from 28, 54, and 48 yards to help Tampa Bay extend its lead to 24-9 at halftime. Weather was relatively pleasant but heavy winds made play difficult.

Early in the third quarter, Philadelphia attempted to narrow Tampa Bay’s lead to two touchdowns with a long drive, but Montravius Adams blocked a punt and sent it rolling into Buffalo territory instead of Philadelphia territory. Two plays later, Doug Pederson attempted a 49-yard field goal into a strong wind but failed, sending it flying 20 yards behind line of scrimmage as Tampa Bay held firm against it.

Fourth Quarter

The revitalized Buccaneers were determined to make an impressionful playoff debut this year, and their strong finish in the regular season gave them an opportunity. Now they need just a few more victories.

Weather wasn’t much of an issue as Tampa Bay maintained a commanding lead throughout the second half. Even an Eagles score late couldn’t derail what otherwise proved an emphatic win for their opponents before an audience of 63,397 at Raymond James Stadium.

Jalen Hurts made his NFL debut and struggled against Tampa Bay’s defense. Although Hurts did find DeVonta Smith for a 5-yard TD late in the fourth quarter, it was too little too late for Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Allen completed 21 of 30 passes while also running for 74 yards, becoming only the sixth quarterback ever with at least three touchdowns passes and 70+ rushing yards combined in a game; additionally he recorded no turnovers during his first playoff appearance since 2020 season.
